Obituary for Dorothy Anne Vermilion

The Vermilion family lost their matriarch, Dorothy A. Vermilion, on March 5, 2018. She preferred to be called by her middle name, Anne. She just didn’t see herself as “Dotty” or “Dot,” names used by friends of her mother whose first name was also Dorothy. Anne, a former resident of Hudson, passed very peacefully a few weeks before her 94th birthday.

Anne was born in Indianapolis, IN to Herbert Andrew and Dorothy Heller Asperger. Because she was “a real handful” according to her mother, Herb and Dotty were very happy to raise her as an only child. It was in Indianapolis that she met her life long best friend, Willas Leon Vermilion, a chemical engineer by education. They were married in 1945 immediately after graduating from Purdue University. Anne was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in education focused on home economics and was an active member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She taught in several high schools while living in Texas, Ohio, and Illinois.

Having lived in Hudson since 1976, Anne spent many hours as a volunteer member of The Friends of the Hudson Library. She took great pride in the results she was able to achieve in her roles associated with the annual Friends fundraising book sale. Other interests included being an accomplished pianist, avid gardener and hobbyist, needlework and furniture refinishing being very special talents. It was in Hudson that her heart was broken with the passing of her husband, Willas, in 2005.

Her three (3) children, Janice, Kenneth, and David, and daughter-in-law Nancy survive Anne. She was extremely proud of her four (4) grandchildren Kari, Andrew, Lauren and Kendall Anne. Kari and husband Steve are parents to Anne’s three (3) precious great-grandchildren Kurt, and twins Avery and Benjamin. (Yes, Avery was born before Ben.)

At Anne’s request, no service will be held. Donations in her memory may be gifted to the Hudson Police Department.

Arrangements by Johnson-Romito Funeral Home, Hudson, OH.
