Obituary for John Maurice Stoner, Jr.

John Maurice Stoner Jr, of Northfield, Ohio, passed away March 4, 2018, a day short of his 73rd birthday. He was born in Bedford, Ohio on March 5, 1945, the son of John M. Stoner Sr. and Mary Bernice (Markle) Zimmer. John was a graduate of Nordonia High School and was drafted into the United States Army where he was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor for heroism and the Purple Heart for injuries received in Vietnam. John married the love of his life, Carol (Iseman) Stoner in 1970 and raised their family in Streetsboro, Ohio. After retirement, John remarried Carol in a ceremony in Las Vegas surrounded by their family. He lived in South Carolina and Florida and recently returned to Northfield, Ohio. He was an artistic, kindhearted, and funny man who loved to be with his wife, children, and his dog Samantha. John’s favorite pastime was researching his ancestry and connecting with relatives, and he also enjoyed playing scrabble and watching movies. He will be missed by his wife, Carol Stoner and children Stacie (James) Wirth, Christopher (Marita) Stoner, Lisa (Michael) Testa, and Gary (Karen) Goss; his grandchildren Matthew Weatherbee, Meranda Weatherbee, Isabella Testa, Austin Goss, Connor Goss, McKenna Goss, Catcher Wirth, Corinne Wirth, Ellis Stoner, Rocco Stoner; his great-grandchildren Matthew Weatherbee and Mason Weatherbee; his siblings Sharyn (Dan) Whitely, Sandy (Joel) Stoner, and Bill (Diane) Evans; as well as his many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John M. and Eileen (Johnston) Stoner, and Mary Bernice (Markle) and Richard Zimmer; by his daughter and son in law, Amy (Goss) and Matthew Weatherbee; and sisters Susan (McCara) Clark and Betty (Stoner) Spreitzer. The family appreciates the special care that John received at Cleveland’s VA hospital where he was surrounded by his loving family during his final days. In lieu of a funeral service the family will hold a celebration of John’s life on April 7, 2018 from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m at Lisa’s School of Dance 1517 Streetsboro Plaza, Streetsboro, Ohio 44241. With military honors at 4:30 p.m at Evergreen Cemetery Veterans Memorial Rt. 14 Streetsboro. Arrangements by Johnson-Romito Funeral Home (330) 468-1443
